What is data synchronization?
Data synchronization technologies are designed to synchronize a single set of data between two or more devices, automatically copying changes back and forth. For example, a user's contact list on one mobile device can be synchronized with other mobile devices or computers.
How does it work?
Nokia's data synchronization technology consists of a set of data transfer protocols and data management methods that can be used to keep data in sync across multiple mobile devices and computers.
Nokia devices may support both local and remote synchronization:
- Local synchronization: when the devices, or device and computer, are side by side, large amounts of data may be economically transferred over high-speed Bluetooth, infrared, or cable connection.
- Remote synchronization: when a user is mobile, data is synchronized over a mobile network, giving the user up-to-date access to email messages, calendar information and to-do lists.
About data synchronization
Nokia supports data synchronization using OMA Data Synchronization (Open Mobile Alliance), an open technology that is considered an industry standard. OMA Data Synchronization is a direct evolution from SyncML Data Synchronization.
OMA Data Synchronization is used by compatible Nokia devices for both local synchronization (using PC Suite) and remote synchronization.
